Today’s Scripture: And they went up out of Egypt, and came into the land of Canaan unto Jacob their father, And told him, saying, Joseph is yet alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt. And Jacob’s heart fainted, for he believed them not. And they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said unto them: and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived: Genesis 45:25-27

Can you imagine being one of Joseph’s brothers? For about 20 years, you have kept a secret about selling your brother as a slave. You convinced your father that your brother died, and it broke your father’s heart. Your father grieves every day about your brother’s death, yet you know he is a slave somewhere.

You keep your sin a secret. Famine comes, and you are sent by your father to get bread from Egypt. When you’re in Egypt, you are accused of being spies and imprisoned. Then your father sends you back to Egypt when the food runs out again. This time, your brother reveals himself. He is the second most powerful man in all of Egypt! He tells you to go back and bring your father to Egypt. What do you tell your father?

At first, you tell him that Joseph is alive and the governor of Egypt, but he doesn’t believe you. After all, he has proof Joseph is dead, the blood-stained coat of many colors. Then you tell your father everything Joseph said. Joseph talks about them selling him into slavery. From Joseph, it is forgiveness, but from you to your father, it is a confession. Your sin is now known.

God is long-suffering. You might wait 20 years before it comes out, but I assure you, it will come out. Why not confess your sin today? Confess to God, and if needed, confess to others.
