Today’s Scripture: For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

We see in this verse that the Word of God is a very sharp weapon that pierces and divides. The Bible is a discerner of our thoughts and intents. It convicts us of sin, and it corrects us. This is not a pain free work. The Word of God is powerful.

That being said, we also know that God’s Word is a lamp to our feet. It shows us the path we need to be on and the dangers that we will walk into if we step off that path. It is the only source of light we have in this dark world.<

If you are hiking in the dark, your most valuable possession is your source of light: a flashlight, lamp, etc. If you are in an army, your most valuable possession is your weapon. It not only helps you destroy the enemy, but it protects your very life. In this world, your most valuable possession is God’s Word. Don’t take your Bible for granted! Without it, the rest of your possessions, ambitions, and hopes are worthless.

So how can God’s Word be a lamp and a sword? If you are walking with God and doing his will, the Word is your lamp. It is your source for direction and helps you see the big picture. Just like a light in the dark woods, it gives you a peace because you know what lies ahead and aren’t afraid of unknowingly walking into danger.

However, if you are not walking with God, the Word of God suddenly becomes sharper than a two-edged sword. It cuts you to the soul and convicts you of sin. God’s Word is also the sword that will defeat the ultimate enemy, Satan.

Treasure your Bible and thank God for it today.
