Today’s Scripture: Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:11

“Come buy my powerful tools!” exclaimed Satan, advertising his devices at a public auction. Among the sale items was a tool locked away in a heavily chained golden box labeled, “Not for Sale.” When asked to explain what was in the box and why it was not for sale, he replied, “In this box is the tool of discouragement. It’s not for sale because I cannot live without it. If I’m able to use this one tool in the hearts of men, I can hinder them from serving God.”

Satan has no shortage of devices to hinder God’s work. He particularly relishes utilizing the tool of discouragement on believers. If we allow discouragement to keep us chained down, we will fail in serving Christ and ministering to others. Discouragement can pounce upon us within seconds, so we must be prepared to face it. In our text, we read that we must put on the armor of God to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Have you been discouraged lately? Someone may have said something to make you feel inferior. Perhaps you made an embarrassing mistake at work and your co-workers won’t let you forget it. Spend some time in the Word and put on the whole armor of God. Rely on His promises to love, shield, defend, and comfort you. Only when you are prepared with His promises can you win the battle against discouragement.
