Reflect to Advance

It’s the last week of 2009. 51 weeks, 361 days, 8,664 hours, 519,840 minutes, and 31,190,400 seconds have elapsed. How did you spend your time this year?

If you could rewind back to the beginning of this year, what things might you have done differently? What things would you do again? What things do you regret doing?

Perhaps you started a new hobby, tried a different career, changed the format of your monthly magazine (we did at VIG!), finished college, got married, or retired. . .

Christmas Hush

Christmas is here, but whatever happened to “Silent Night”? Everyone is in a frantic rush to go a-shopping. With stockings to be hung, carols to be sung, and baking to be done, there’s not much time left for quietude. I submit to you that we ought to quit rushing and start hushing. A Christless Christmas Brings No Cheer

Merry Christmas! I’m just saying it now for all the times it doesn’t get said this time of year. Ever since the name of Christ became taboo, Merry Christmas has become “Happy Holidays!” People don’t seem to understand the Reason for the season anymore.

Things were no better on the very first Christmas. Throngs of people pushed and shoved their way into Jewish bazaars to trade with merchants. Shopkeepers negotiated for the highest bidders on their wares. Families crowded the inns and places of lodging. Life was busy in Bethlehem on that night. No one seemed to notice the Savior’s birth.read more »

You'll Need More Than a Fork

forkOf over 370 million Americans celebrating Thanksgiving this Thursday, how many are truly thankful? Can you be counted in that number?

What difference does it make if you cook the perfect turkey, but spoil the Thanksgiving atmosphere for your guests by your impatient attitude?

Think on these things:read more »
