Today’s Scripture: A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: Proverbs 18:24a
Is friendship important in the life of the believer? Since we have the Lord, do we need the companionship of others?
From dealing with flat tires and rough work days to enduring the critical comments of others, the Lord knew our lives wouldn’t be easy. So, he gave us the gift of friendship so that we could encourage, uplift, and draw each other closer to God.
Is friendship important in the life of the believer? Since we have the Lord, do we need the companionship of anyone else?
Although the Lord is all we need, He did provide us with the opportunity to spiritually grow from one another and work together in service to Him. We should cultivate godly friendships because God’s Word tells us in Proverbs 27:17, “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”
How do we acquire godly friends? It is not by sitting back and waiting for them to come out of the woodwork. We must first show an interest in the lives of others. We must step out of our comfort zones and show ourselves friendly.
Do you need a friend? Shift your focus to the needs of others. Find a person in your congregation to whom you could be a blessing. Do something special for that person and take the time to get to know them a little better. Be a blessing. You never know what may come of taking an interest in the life of someone else. You may just get a friend.
