July 23rd – The Wardrobe of the Heart

Did you know a Christian should be fashionable? By this I am neither recommending spending hours at a beauty parlor, nor suggesting that you visit designer retailers to study the latest fashion trends. I’m referring to spiritual fashion: the wardrobe of the heart.
Just as we would not wear camo on a date or a three-piece suit on a hunting trip, we must exercise wisdom in the selection of our spiritual clothing: the armor of light, which is the Word of God, and the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 13:12, 14). God has custom-tailored this clothing to each believer’s unique needs. The fit is always just right — we need only to wear it.
The devil knows he cannot steal our spiritual clothing; nevertheless, he will do everything in his power to tarnish our garments. He will tempt us to soil them with sins such as adultery, slander, bitterness, hatred, dishonesty, and rebellion.
Fortunately, our spiritual garments include both a repellant and a cleansing agent. We have the Word of God to help us resist temptation when it confronts us (Psalm 119:11); we have the Son of God to pray for us when we are tempted (Luke 22:31–32); and we have the Christian Bar of Soap (1 John 1:9), which cleanses us when we do sin. Everything we need for the Christian life can be found in our spiritual wardrobe.
Are you aware of the great garments you possess in Jesus Christ? Most importantly, are you wearing them? You can be spiritually fashionable every day when you allow the Word of God and the Son of God to clothe you. Find Scriptures which apply to your specific needs today, and pray that God would help you apply them to each situation in your life. You can only experience victory as you wear the wardrobe of the heart.
