When Death’s Kiss Brought Life

Today's Scripture: 1 John 4:9-11
The events surrounding the death of Princess Alice make this a touching story. The Princess’s daughter was seriously ill with diphtheria. The doctors told the princess not to kiss her little girl and endanger her life by breathing the child’s breath. Once, however, when the child was struggling to breathe, the mother, forgetting herself entirely, took the little one into her arms to keep her from choking to death. Rasping and struggling for her life, the child said, "Momma, kiss me!" Without thinking of herself, the mother tenderly kissed her daughter. She became infected with diphtheria and later died from the disease.
Friends, we were like that poor little girl gasping and struggling for life. We were infected with the disease of sin. Desperate for love, we cried out to God. In His great love, God took us in His arms and embraced us, though He knew that this would cause His only Son to lose His life. You see, real love forgets self. Real love knows no danger. Real love doesn’t count the cost.
I am amazed that God can love any of us. Frankly speaking, we’re all sick in His eyes. Yet He loves us, in spite of ourselves. We must share this love with the world around us. Do you have a friend, neighbor, relative, or co-worker who needs Christ? Don’t hesitate to tell them about Jesus, Who can make them whole.
Today's Quote: Jesus did not come to make God’s love possible, but to make God’s love visible.
