Today's Scripture: Galatians 6:10
Why is it that we are often so harsh with those we are closest to? Why are the most poisonous words uttered in homes and family cars and even in churches? Could it be that we're so familiar that we take advantage of those God has put in our families and extended families?
I find it so amazing that Christians, who are so good at reaching out and helping someone in need, who smile and hug those who walk in the church door for the first time-turn bitter and angry at their spouses, children, and co-workers.
It's true that God wants us to reach out with compassion and grace toward those who don't know Him. But that never means we should forget to encourage those people we see everyday. Those people whose personalities clash with our own. Those people whose annoying habits grate on our nerves.
The Bible says that these people shouldn't get our left-over love, but our best attention. We should serve them with kindness. We should use our words to build up their spirits. And we should avoid nit-picky arguments that damage relationships.
Maybe there is someone in your life that you've recently treated poorly. Take some time today to apologize and then recommit to serving them with Christ-like love.
