Do You Know Your Enemy?

Daily Reflections, Saturday, March 8, 2008

Today's Scripture: 1 Peter 5:8; 1 John 4:4

Do you know your enemy? I’m not talking about the coworker who undermines you with the boss. I’m not talking about a family member who mocks your faith. I’m not even talking about an addiction that threatens to destroy your family.

These things are just weapons in the hand of the real enemy. Satan. The Bible says that the devil is a "roaring lion" who walks about looking for people to devour. (1 Peter 5:8) Satan wants you. He wants to ruin your life. He wants to make you miserable, mad, and ineffective.

But he doesn’t present himself so threateningly. He comes to you in your area of weakness. He custom designs temptations to bring you down. He whispers doubts in your head. All those things that cause you to question God’s direction in your life—these are the work of Satan.

So what is the believer to do? Cower in fear? Go in hiding? No. We can claim God’s power. The Bible says, "greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world" (1 John 4:4).

Today's Quote: Most Christians don’t understand that there is a battle raging, daily, for control of their lives.
