Know-It-All Christianity

Today's Scripture: James 4:6; 1 Peter 5:5
I’ve spent most of my adult life studying the Bible. I have shepherded a church for nearly 40 years. I’ve preached through almost every book in the Bible.
And yet, the more I dig deeper into God’s Word, the more I realize how little I really know. I trust you feel the same way.
Sometimes Christians can come across as know-it-alls. We often act arrogantly, as if we’ve arrived and we have the answers to every question. But, we don’t have all the answers, God does. And compared to the vast knowledge of God, our knowledge is so limited.
Writer Andree Seu remarked in a recent column in World, “The difference in knowledge between you and your brother—as compared to God’s knowledge—is like the difference between two boys on the Jersey shore boasting about who can throw a rock the closest to England.”
Isn’t this true? How absurd is it to walk around with such pride? The Bible says that God resists the proud. He literally works against the proud. Do we want that? It also says that He gives grace to the humble.
I don’t know about you, but I want more grace. Not more of God’s resistance.
Today's Quote: A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and of course, as long as you’re looking down, you can’t see something that’s up. —C.S. Lewis
