I forgot!

Today's Scripture: Revelation 2:1-7

I was almost home before I realized I had forgotten my sermons and my glasses at church. I forced myself to be patient as I turned around to retrieve everything. Later that week as I sat down to study I realized I had left my favorite pen upstairs. I tried not to grumble as I went back up the stairs but I sure felt like it! When I got back to my chair, I realized that I didn’t have my glasses. I trudged upstairs again to get them and when I finally sat back down I thought that while I enjoy exercise, certainly some of the best I had received lately has been because I keep going back and forth as a result of my forgetful brain!

We all forget things. It’s an inevitable part of the human condition. And yet we must not forget one thing, our first love.

In Revelation, John writes to the church at Ephesus and admonishes them not to forget their first love. He praised all they had accomplished for the Lord, but he didn’t want them to forget their burning desire to please the Lord first and foremost.

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it is easy to forget the most important thing of all, why we are doing what we are doing. Earlier, John tells us that we love Him because He first loved us. Our first love is to our Savior. As long as we don’t forget that as Christians, we are all going to be okay.
