Today's Scripture: Proverbs 4:7

Do you know of someone who started to build a house, but couldn’t finish it? Sometimes this happens because of circumstances beyond a person’s control, but sometimes it happens because of laziness or indifference.

Years ago, a church started to build a huge addition, but never finished it. It sat idle and empty for many years and finally became such a financial burden that the church sold the property.

We need to be careful we aren’t doing this same thing in our Christian lives.

Before my Mother died, she cared for her Alzheimer’s diseased husband. One time when they were about to board a plane they both got into line, but when my Mother turned around her husband was gone. The plane had to take off without them. She said, “I didn’t know what to do. I had no idea where my husband was. I started to panic, but then I remembered the verse in James about anyone lacking wisdom needs to ask for it from God. So that’s what I did and it was only about an hour or so later that we were able to find him and take off on a different flight.”

Do you need some of this precious building material called wisdom? Then ask for it and you will receive it.

Mere change is not growth. Growth is the synthesis of change and continuity, and where there is no continuity there is no growth. —C.S. Lewis
