David’s Confession

Today's Scripture: Psalm 51

In the past, David went to battle with the soldiers and supported the people, but just before his sin, he decided to take it easy. He figured that he had done enough. He had been working hard and he deserved a break. Then with too much time on his hands, it was easy to sin.

David wrote Psalm 51 as a confessional. God forgave him, however, David paid for the consequences of his sin for the rest of his life. He was told that the sword would never depart from his house. Even though Jesus is going to one day sit on his throne, and even though Jesus came out of his bloodline, David paid a terrible price for his sin.

Friend, are you thinking about committing a sin that you think will bring pleasure? I beg of you to look at the example of David and flee the temptation that is before you. Sin will never bring you fulfillment. It is sure to only bring shame and destruction.

Remember that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23) and while Jesus Christ has paid for the price of our sins so that we can go to Heaven, you will still pay for the consequences of your sin while you are on the earth.

Stay away from the thing that tempts you and lean on the promises of God. He promises to guard and protect you through any temptation that you face. Lean on Him for strength today.
