Credit Card Salvation

Today's Scripture: Romans 8:3-11

Have you ever wondered how the Jews got saved in the Old Testament? Did they get saved by the law?

In the Old Testament, there are a multitude of examples of God’s abundant mercy. The very first promise of a Messiah in the Bible is as early as Genesis 3:15 when man first sinned. Even though His perfect creation had sinned and was no longer fit for Heaven, He promised a Savior who would one day die for their sins and the sins of the world. To show this, God killed an animal and covered Adam and Eve’s nakedness with its skin.
It is clear that it is impossible for anyone to reach God through good works. This has been true despite the period of history.

When the Jews brought their sacrifices to the altar they were saying they believed that it is only through sacrifice that sin could be paid for. And not the sacrifice of the animal the priest killed—it was the eventual sacrifice of the Son of God on the cross of Calvary. It could be looked at as a kind of “credit-card” salvation. They were looking ahead to the payment their Messiah, the Lord Jesus, would make on the cross for their sins.

Thank God for the miraculous way in which He saved you. Jesus suffered for you that you might have eternal life. What a great God we have!
