Today's Scripture: Genesis 20:1-18

When studying Abraham’s life, we see many illustrations of great faith. But this chapter in the Bible deals with the subject of Abraham claiming Sarai was his sister when she was his wife.

Abraham had basically done the same thing 25 years before. It is easier to explain why he did it the first time than why he did it the second time. Why would a man who has grown in the Lord and greatly progressed in his Christian life do such a thing again?

The answer should make us all tremble. Abraham hadn’t been in those same circumstances for 25 years. As soon as he got into that same situation, his gut reaction kicked in. This is why we should be so careful when we say, “Well, I’ve conquered this sin or that weakness.” None of us are strong. It is only by God’s grace that we are able to avoid giving into temptation and it is only through the power of the Holy Spirit that we can have victory.

1 Corinthians 10:13 states, “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

Pray today that you won’t put yourself in a position where you would be tempted to sin. Abraham finally learned his lesson. Let’s learn ours!

Today's Quote:
The only way to grow in Christ is to realize the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives each and every day.
