Coasting Into Glory

Today's Scripture: Psalm 90:12
It’s hard to believe that baseball season has already begun. As you may know, I enjoy watching the Cubs when my busy schedule allows. (Is this finally the year?)
If you’ve ever gone to a baseball game, you know one thing fans won’t tolerate is a player who they feel is “dogging” it. If he fails to run hard to first base even on an out, he’s going to be subject to endless boos and catcalls.
On the flip side, a player who may not be the most talented and yet who gives everything he has got the entire game will always be a favorite among the locals. We always cheer for the underachiever who makes it a lot farther than he should have.
In Scripture, David asks the Lord, “teach us to number our days.” He wasn’t asking the Lord when he would die—he was basically saying, “God, help us to realize that life is short and that we must spend our remaining days living for You.”
Life is short and eternity is forever. That’s why Christians should be involved in pursuits that will last forever. Do we want our life to count or do we want to just “dog” it and sail on into eternity? David’s psalm should cause you to stop and think. What is the substance of your life? Are you playing with passion or are you coasting?
Today's Quote: Don’t waste time, it’s all we have.
