Forgetting to Remember

Today's Scripture: Deuteronomy 8

It’s funny how hard we are on the disciples for failing to believe Jesus could feed 4,000, when he had just fed 5,000 earlier. It’s funny how we shake our heads at Peter for taking his eyes off of Jesus that night on the water. And it’s amazing our attitudes toward the children of Israel, who didn’t have the faith to trust a God Who had routinely provided for their needs.

But we are just as guilty as the people we read about. We forget to remember.

In Deuteronomy 8, the children of Israel were reminded to remember God’s providence. He had miraculously brought them out of Egypt. He’d led them through the Red Sea. He’d given them water from a rock, bread from Heaven, quail on the beach. Had God ever failed His promises?

That same God is still powerful today. And you know it as well as I do. We would do well to remember the times God has shown Himself strong on our behalf. Can you look back at your life and see points of God’s intervention in your life? Or have you chalked those up to coincidence or your own good sense?

If so, like Israel, you’re missing the boat.

Maybe today is the day you pause, get a sheet of paper, and write down the miracles God has done for you. You’ll be amazed at how this exercise will change your perspective.

Today's Quote:
We easily remember our hardships. We have difficulty remembering our blessings.
