Today's Scripture: James 1:2-4

I felt that the last part of Dr. Jeremiah’s interview was the most compelling part. I’m sure you are learning as much from it as I did.

Dr. Jeremiah continues: “We were on a Christian cruise one time. It was January, and in March, I was going to have a stem cell transplant. The last night, they had a prayer service for me. When we were at the airport before going home, a lady who had been on the cruise came up to me and said, ‘Can I talk to you? I just want you to know that my husband was on a cruise like this, and they prayed for him and a year later he died. It’s not going to do any good.’ This lady then walked away. There seems to be a desire in the hearts of some people, a desire to tell someone who’s suffering something that, if they thought it out, they’d realize what they were going to say is not going to help the suffering person. My counsel is, I’m not even sure what you say to a person who’s going through that. Just be with them. Let them know you love them and that you’ll pray for them. There aren’t any mantras or words you can say that will be all that important. Just be there for them.”

As believers, we need to understand that we can actually increase a brother or sister’s suffering if we are not sensitive to them. If they know you love them, that is the best medicine you can give.
