Suffering 101

Today's Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:3-4

Here are some principles that have helped me through many hardships in over 30 years of ministry.

1. Make sure when you are suffering that you are doing it for Christ and not for your own stupidity. Is there something you could have done to prevent your hardship? If so, take the appropriate steps to make the wrong right. Then give it to God.

2. Continue to do well and serve the Lord even as you suffer. Many people tend to use their current time of distress as an excuse to drop out of ministries in the church. If possible, continue ministering to others. Otherwise, accept the ministry of other people toward you. Be open with people, share with them what you are going through. They can’t help you if they don’t know.

3. Give God the glory, not self.

4. Look to your reward in Heaven for enduring suffering. There are some situations in our lives where we won’t know until eternity why we faced what we faced. The Lord knows the outcome. He knows the end from the beginning. Only He will be able to finally explain our suffering to us.

Only the Lord is strong enough to carry your greatest burdens.

Today's Quote: It will greatly comfort you if you can see God’s hand in both your losses and your crosses.—C.H. Spurgeon
