Bring What You Have

Today's Scripture: 1 Samuel 17:12-58

All the leaders in Israel’s camp quivered in fear at the menacing giant before them. In those days, battles could be decided with a one-on-one match. And so the Philistines, knowing they had this unbeatable giant, challenged Israel. For 40 days, he taunted the men of Israel, who were supposed to be men of God.

In reality, they were gripped by fear. They were struck with a bad case of the “if-only’s.” If only they had a giant Goliath’s size. If only they had better armor. If only Goliath would stop taunting them.

Here comes David. David knew the formula for beating giants. It’s simple. Bring what you have, surrender it to the Lord, and God will win your battles for you. All David had was a silly slingshot and a few stones. But he was good at that slingshot. More importantly, he had strong faith in God’s ability to work through his weakness to victory.

Maybe you are facing a giant. Maybe you feel inadequate. Maybe you wish you had the heritage, the resources, the authority someone else seems to have. Don’t worry about that. Bring what you have to the Lord. Your gifts, your talents, your life.

And see what God will do through you. See the giants fall.

Today's Quote: The giants fall only when we realize that the battle is not ours, but the Lord’s.
