Is It Really Worth It?

Today's Scripture: Joshua 24:14-15
Is it ever right to do wrong to do right? As we look at Jonah’s story, it’s easy to think, “If Jonah didn’t experience those hardships, he wouldn’t have reached Nineveh.” Friends, it’s never right to do wrong so right can come, because we can’t choose the consequences for our sin!
God didn’t need an acid-bleached, smelly prophet to convince Nineveh of His judgment. He wanted, rather, a willing man, available to do His bidding. God’s plan will get done, regardless. He may even change our plans to make it work.
A church member once told me falling into sin was, “…One of the best things I ever did, because it showed me how wrong I was.” I couldn’t disagree more. While we can learn from our sin, and even go on to fruitful service for Christ, it’s not worth the pain and loss which follows: A divorce, the loss of a high-ranking church position, or even a friend’s death in a drunkdriving accident.
What about Scriptural references where people lied and God blessed them, such as Rahab (Joshua 2:1-6)? Here are some questions you should ask yourself when faced with moral dilemmas: 1. Will God be pleased with my actions? 2. Will my actions have eternal value? 3. Will my actions promote my way or God’s way? These will help you determine what’s truly worth your while.
