Your Stepwell

Today's Scripture: Luke 5:3-11

In India, if you have a Stepwell, you’ll be able to step well-that is live well, live fully, healthy and whole.

A Stepwell is a unique well from which water is drawn by walking down some stairs. They’re most common in India, where water is a precious commodity.

Between the 11th and 16th centuries, Stepwells were built in India to ensure accessibility to water even during the driest seasons.

Sometimes walking down the steps was strenuous and inconvenient, especially in India’s hot climate and during the droughts.

One might assume the traditional well much easier to operate. It’s never been easy or convenient to gather water from an Indian Stepwell, but during the dry seasons, they are the very best source of this life-giving liquid. You simply have to make the effort to walk down the steps.

This easily transitions to the Christian life. Sometimes during the dry times, the difficult times, we need to remember that the well of living water that every Christian possesses is more like a Stepwell than a traditional well.

The living water is always there, no matter how difficult the situation. Yet, sometimes we have to “step into the water” as the song goes to keep going for the long term.

Today's Quote: Bear up the hands that hang down, by faith and prayer; support the tottering knees. —John Wesley
