Today's Scripture: Psalm 23
John Smith was just told by his boss that his rating for the quarter was a 3. Understand that the employees of this particular company are rated on a system of 1-5 with 5 being the highest.
John has always received a 4 or 5. But due to economic problems with the company, the big bosses don’t want to award a 5 to an employee even if the employee is a stellar one because of the problems with this particular branch of the business. These are problems beyond John’s control. He has always been exemplary in his work habits.
John Smith is a Christian. He deserves a 5 rating.
It hurts pretty bad. He wonders if it is even worth continuing on with a company that has no problem doing this to him.
Should John take the 3 rating personally? He shouldn’t though it would be hard not to. Now, if John received that rating because of laziness, he should take heed and change.
John feels serious grief.
John is the victim of an entire company that isn’t doing well. Sometimes this happens. In fact, it happens a lot more than we realize.
Most of the time in life, we lose a lot more than we win. That is when we need to remember we have a Stepwell filled with living water. The well that will never run dry.
