Today's Scripture: Matthew 6:24

“Eleven-year-old Ethan and twelve-year-old Jason roamed the aisles of the grocery store holding their mother’s twenty dollar bill. “What should we buy?” Ethan asked Jason.

“What do you mean? Mom told us to buy a couple bags of lettuce.”

“That’s not what I want to buy,” said Ethan with a grimace.

The boys reached the snack aisle and stopped. The shelves were overflowing with every form of cookie imaginable. The brothers took one look at the twenty dollar bill and began grabbing everything from Oreos to Nutter Butters. Loaded down with cookies they made their way to the checkout.

Rather than respecting their mother’s wishes, Ethan and Jason decided to serve their fleshly desires. Often, we as Christians tend to make the same mistake. We give people and things the respect that we should be giving God. In our Scripture passage, we read that no man can serve two masters. We must choose to please God or self.

Where does your loyalty lie? Perhaps you have been serving your flesh by listening to worldly music. Maybe you have been more focused on following the latest fashion trends than on following God. Why not make it a point to eliminate the cookies that are standing between you and your loyalty to Him? Remember, you can only serve one master.
