Eeyore or Encourager?

Today's Scripture: Proverbs 12:25

Are you an Eeyore? Perhaps you remember the donkey from the classic Winnie the Pooh children’s stories. Known for being depressed and negative, he was the perfect example of what we as Christians are not to be. Instead of being an encourager, Eeyore cast a gloomy shadow everywhere he went. It almost seemed as if he had a rain cloud perpetually hovering above his head.

There are so many people who go through life as Eeyores. Rather than sharing the joy of the Lord with others, they hide beneath an ever-present raincloud. Consumed with their problems, they refuse to allow the light of Christ to shine through their clouds. In our text, we read that one good word of encouragement can make another person’s heart glad. It does not take much to uplift our brothers and sisters in Christ. Sometimes all it takes is a few simple words.

Do you feel as if you have been living your life beneath a raincloud? Have you been wallowing in the puddles of your own self-pity? The best way to get rid of the gloom is to allow Christ to shine through your life. Take the time to encourage someone today. Let His marvelous light break through your rainclouds.

A Friend will strengthen you with his prayers, bless you with his love, and encourage you with his hope. —Unknown Author
