Today's Scripture: Psalm 23:6
F.B. Meyer wrote, “If we’ve been told we’re supposed to be on a bumpy track, then every jolt along the way simply confirms the fact that we’re still on the right road!”
If you and I could realize this about our Heavenly Shepherd, then we would be much more trusting sheep. Elizabeth George gives us more insight in her “Steps for Successfully Handling Sorrow”.
1. Remember the place—the valley of the shadow of death.
2. Remember the proclamation—I will fear no evil.
3. Remember God’s protection—His rod and His staff.
4. Remember God’s promise—They comfort me.
Psalm 23:6 speaks of the goodness and mercy of God following us all the days of our life. One writer states this, “These two angels of God—Goodness and Mercy—shall follow and encamp around the pilgrim. The[ir] white wings . . . will never be far away from the journeying child, and the air will often be filled with the music of their comings, and their celestial weapons will glance around him in all the fight, and their soft arms will bear him over all the rough ways and up higher to the throne.”
Have you thought lately about the goodness and mercy of God? Have you thought about what it means to be pursued by these wonderful attributes of our Savior? Meditate on this promise today and it can’t help but change your outlook.
Men are slower to recognize blessings than evils. —Livy
