Today's Scripture: Luke 12:25
“I pick Brittany,” Lisa called out.
“I pick Andrea,” said Hannah.
All twenty-three of the Junior High girls were divvied up into 2 volleyball teams—except for one. Elaine stood in the center of the gym floor alone.
“You get Elaine,” said Lisa.
“I don’t want her—she’s too short and scrawny. You take her.”
Later that night, Elaine burst into tears while washing dishes at the kitchen sink. Her mother came up behind her. “Honey, what’s wrong?”
“Why can’t God make me taller? All the girls say I am too short and scrawny.”
“Elaine, don’t worry about how tall you are or what others think. God created you just the way you are and He loves everything about you.”
So often, we worry about what those around us think and say. Words can be cruel and harsh. They can cut deep into our emotions, especially when the comment refers to something we are already self-conscious about. However, we read in our Scripture passage that there is no reason to fret over what others say. Our worrying cannot even add one inch to our height.
Have you been dwelling on something someone has said about your physical appearance? Perhaps someone told you that you are too short, too tall, too homely or too different-looking. Don’t let their words trouble you. God made you just the way you are for a reason. You are part of God’s plan—even if others think you are “short and scrawny.”
Thank the Lord right now for making you just the way you are.
A beautiful heart more than offsets the handicap of a homely face. — Unknown Author
