Got Peace?

Today's Scripture: I Peter 3:10-13

Did you know that we can have peace through what we don’t do? When we attempt to pin-point why we do not have peace, we often overlook the area of our speech. However, it is one of the most important facets of life to consider. In fact, we often lack peace because of what we say. If we haven’t “got peace,” we need to ask ourselves the following five questions:

1. Am I gossiping about others?
2. Have I said things to my brothers and sisters in Christ that would discourage them?
3. Have I talked badly about those in authority?
4. Does my speech ruin my testimony to the unsaved?
5. Am I saying things that might lead other believers astray?

Perhaps our speech is what is standing between us and a peaceful life. In our text, we read that if we want to live an enjoyable, peaceful life then we need to refrain from speaking evil and disdain wickedness.

Have you let your speech slip? Perhaps out of boredom, you have found entertainment in spreading gossip about others. Maybe you have adapted some of the sinful catch phrases of the world to make yourself more popular at work. Why not take a moment to reflect on your speech? It may be the culprit that has been stealing your peace.

The Tongue weighs practically nothing, yet so few people can hold it. – Author unknown
