Today's Scripture: Ephesians 4:17-20
Have you ever had a blind man for a tour guide? A couple years ago, I toured Israel with members from my former church. Don Srail, a legally blind man, was part of the group. Though he couldn’t see the Holy Land, he was able to experience it with his seeing-eye
dog, Zeke. Don is a wonderful friend and he doesn’t let his blindness keep him from experiencing life.
Our tour group followed the guide single-file through the Old City of Jerusalem. I walked near the middle of the line with Don, while my wife, Karen, stayed with the people near the end. We had fallen a short distance behind the group in front of us, when we came to an intersection. Don and I turned right, unaware that the group had continued on ahead. Those behind followed us around the corner.
A short time later, we heard people shouting, “Pastor Scudder! Pastor Scudder!” We turned to see the front end of our group calling us to go the other direction. We went the wrong way, because the blind was leading the blind.
Those who reject Christ’s free gift are spiritually blind. They cannot see enough to understand the depth and breadth of God’s love for them. They cannot see enough to succor themselves. In a desperate search for truth, they turn to science, philosophy, and manmade religion. Yet their blindness causes them to wander ever farther down the path to destruction.
It’s difficult trying to lead others when we don’t know where we’re going. When it comes to spiritual matters, let’s make sure our feet are firmly planted before we decide to stand firm.
I would rather walk with God in the dark than go alone in the light.
