Forecast of a Coming Savior

Today's Scripture: 2 Peter 1:19-21

Your task: write a biography covering the mission and purpose of Jesus, the Messiah. The challenge: He hasn’t yet arrived on the scene of history.

Such a task is impossible for a mortal man—which is why God took it upon Himself to write such a treatise. God’s omniscience allows Him to see things to come as though they have already occurred.

From the very first book in the Bible, God pointed toward the coming Messiah. The same God Who foresaw Messiah’s Advent orchestrated the events and people to usher in His arrival. Each prophecy is dead-on accurate:

             • Messiah would become God in human flesh, born of a virgin – “. . . Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14)

o Fulfillment – “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.” (Matthew 1:18)

            • Messiah would die for the sins of others – “. . . The LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6)

o Fulfillment – “For he hath made him [Christ] to be sin for us, who knew no sin. . .” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Every prophecy of the coming Messiah was fulfilled in Jesus Christ. The forecasts were true. The Savior has come. Trust Him today.

Every promise God has ever made finds its fulfillment in Jesus. —Joni Eareckson Tada
