Unpacking
How do you know you’re settled into a new home after a move?
When your clothes are unpacked?
When the dishes are put away in the cabinets?
When you’ve found the hangers?
When you’ve found the labeler?
In our case with our recent move eight hours across the country to northeastern Ohio, it was the last one. Neal was looking for the labeler so he could label his office supplies. In case you haven’t noticed, he is much more organized in life than I am! He kept asking me where the labeler was and I couldn’t find it anywhere. My sister-in-law, Karen, and my best friend, Joy, had come to help us move in and I remembered Joy using the labeler on the last day here. So when I couldn’t find the labeler, I called her and she knew right where it was. I went and found it.
Moving in is an ongoing process. While the majority of our stuff is put away, I know I will need different items and will need to find where I put them.
God working in my life is an ongoing process too. God slowly unpacks the boxes of my frustration, worry, and anger, and replaces them with His love and peace. I’m thankful for His ongoing work in my heart.
Now, if I could just remember this when I’m looking for the dog hair trimmer!
