A Late Present

red package bowOne Christmas, my best present didn’t arrive until January. That’s because I was almost nine months pregnant on December 25th and our son, James, (named after his grandfather) was born seventeen days later.

During the long delivery, I was able to share the gospel with my doctor. The hospital was a teaching one and several interns were working that day. With many of them I was able to share about Victory In Grace’s work in India. At one point, I counted 27 people in the hospital room — all of them were asking Neal and I questions about India and Victory In Grace. An hour after James was born, I turned on the TV and there was Dad — teaching on Victory In Grace! The interns and doctors came back to the room and watched the broadcast.

It was a wonderful day. As I held James in my arms, I studied everything about him, his perfect hands and feet, and the perfect pout of his lips. I couldn’t believe God had given us such an incredible gift. I thought of the verse, Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. (Psalm 127:3).

At Christmastime, let’s not forget the gift of His Son. God is so generous. He is the ultimate gift giver.
