It pays to prepare
I had the opportunity to spend time with a man as he was dying this year. He had Parkinson’s for 14 years so his family had time to prepare for his death. He knew the Lord. While it was painful to see him go, it’s a comfort to know he’s no longer in pain. He’s in the arms of Jesus right now, waiting for you and me.
His widow played a 30-year-old tape of him singing Amazing Grace the other day when I visited. Tears formed in my eyes as I thought of him in heaven right now. She also shared a poem with me that he had written many years ago. In the poem, he expressed his sadness that the world Christ created had crucified Him. He asked for the Lord to come and take him home. His prayer has been answered now.
Have you trusted Christ as your Savior? That’s the most important thing you can know. Simply trust in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ and you will have eternal life like my friend. If you have already done this, can I ask you to do two things?
1. Pray for an opportunity to tell someone about Christ today
2. Take the steps this family took to prepare for his death. They had all their paperwork (wills, etc.) filled out well in advance. They had plans made for the body. Everything went so smoothly because they had planned ahead. I was happy for their sakes they had planned ahead and consider them a model family in this regard.
Also, this man had some extended family that may not know Christ. Will you join me right now in praying for their salvation? Thank you.
You’ll find me in heaven rejoicing with this man who endured such pain on this earth but will never experience a bit of pain in heaven. What a joy it will be to see him in his new body, rejoicing in the light of the Lamb.
