Hot Pursuit

Today's Scripture: Psalm 91:3-5

Satan chased Christian down the rocky path until Christian could feel the steam of his breath on his heels. Satan let out a spine-tingling roar as he advanced closer. He could almost taste the victory.

After running for miles from the lies he had told, Christian was exasperated. He had nothing to throw to trip up his ever-advancing pursuer. Finally, He remembered what his Lord had said: “My truth shall be your shield and your buckler.”

Christian spun around and shouted God’s truth in the face of Satan. As soon as he did, the beast fled from him in fear. Christian gained the victory through God’s righteous truth.

Sometimes we think telling lies will rescue us from sticky situations and embarrassing mistakes. In reality, it will only cause the devil to gain more ground in his fierce pursuit. By withholding the truth, we are allowing him opportunity to overtake our lives.

We can be confident our King will deliver us from any situation when we seek Him and speak the truth.

Are you allowing lies to overtake your life? Perhaps you are hiding an addiction from your family or covering up a mistake you made at school or work. Friend, rather than living in lies, let God’s truth be your shield. Confess your sin to Him right now, then make the situation right with others. Satan is in hot pursuit; don’t let him trip you up with lies.

A lie is like a snowball; the further you roll it, the bigger it becomes. —Martin Luther
