Today's Scripture: Esther 4:11-16; Jonah 1:1-3
Jonah was certainly the man God had chosen for the hour at hand. As a prophet of the Lord, Jonah served his country, faithfully meeting the spiritual needs of the Israeli people. But God unexpectedly called him to preach judgment upon the people of Nineveh. When called to action, however, Jonah packed his bags and fled.
Another person God had specifically selected to fulfill His purpose was Esther. In this classic rags-to riches story, Esther, a young, Jewish girl, was selected as the Queen of Persia after winning a beauty pageant. Shortly thereafter, however, she received word that her people, the Jews, were in danger of annihilation. Realizing the urgency of the situation, Esther answered God’s call (at the risk of her own life) and saved her people.
How will you respond in your moment of truth? Will you cling so tightly to your dearly beloved status and reputation that you cannot lay it all on the line to do God’s will, or will you acknowledge the significance of the position where God has placed you, and thrive there?
You receive a promotion at work, and now your employer wants you to do something illegitimate for the company. How will you respond? Are you willing to put your job, even your life on the line for Christ?
