Today's Scripture: Psalm 19:12-14

Of all people, Jonah should have known the futility of running away from God. As the man of God, he was supposed to have a model relation ship with Jehovah. It’s remarkable that Jonah could talk with the God of the universe on a regular basis and still think it possible to flee from His presence. Jonah’s decision was purely irrational.

But let us consider how Jonah reached this point. Quentin J. Evera sheds some light: "When a person’s faith seems to collapse without warning, one can be sure it has been the result of inner conflicts, the termites of disobedience."

Jonah didn’t begin with flat-out rebellion. His decision came over a period of time. Seeds of rebellion were sown and took root in his heart. After giving those seeds fertile ground to sprout, they choked out Jonah’s desire to obey God, and eventually corrupted his heart. We must shield our hearts from the termites of disobedience.

Plead with the Lord today, that He would search your heart and reveal tiny termites of sin within your life. Ask Him to cleanse you of your secret faults, and you can rest secure!

Today's Quote:  One moth may spoil the garment; one leak can drown the ship; a penknife stab can kill a man as well as a sword; so one sin may damn the soul.—Jeremiah Burroughs
