Today's Scripture: Jonah 1:10-17; Proverbs 14:12
Jonah had prepared the recipe for his own ruin: Not only had he run from God, but he had paid to do it! He ended up paying a whole lot more than he’d bargained for; however, Jonah quickly found that man’s way leads to a hopeless end, while God’s way leads to an endless hope.
Too frequently, we insist upon doing our own thing and working out our own wills, rather than pursuing God’s way. We think it’s a trivial matter, but Scripture warns that the ultimate end of man’s way is destruction. Jonah would have faced that had God not interfered.
With things spiraling out of control, Jonah’s life and the lives of his innocent shipmates were now in serious peril. Had God not sent the fish to swallow Jonah, he and his companions would surely have drowned in the fierce storm. Justice demanded Jonah’s life—but grace prevailed!
Are you pursuing your own dreams, or living for personal ambitions? God has spoken. These things lead to a hopeless end! Choose God’s way, and you shall find an endless hope far greater than you ever imagined!
Today's Quote: Oh, beware! Do not seek to be something! Let me be nothing, and Christ be all in all.—John Wesley
