Today's Scripture: Philippians 3:7-14
A man was asked to attend his forty-year high school reunion. He was thrilled as his mind replayed the memories of the "good old days" in school. In child-like excitement, the man and his wife left for the big get-together.
In returning, however, the man was dejected and downcast. He stated that the reunion was one of the saddest experiences of his life. He considered it a great tragedy because no one had changed for the better. He simply couldn’t understand it. He thought life was too precious, too sacred, and too important to allow it to just lie stagnant.
Have you ever been a prisoner to stagnation? Has the here and now kept you from advancing toward the blessings God has for you? While it’s easy to be caught up in the immediate struggles and concerns we deal with on a daily basis—or even to be locked in resentment over past failures—God desires that we press on toward the prize of our calling.
Paul expressed his chief desire to know Christ, and he did not veer from his objective. His every word, thought, and action was devoted to this end. Can you match such commitment in the upcoming year? Whether or not you feel worthy or capable of such an objective, this ought to be the level of dedication for which we strive.
