Don’t Let Barking Dogs Scare You

Today's Scripture: Psalm 59:1-17

There is a portion of my Bible that is worn from much use. It’s the middle part of the Bible—the Psalms. This is where I have found so much relief and comfort, especially during the withering attacks of the enemy.

When you decide to follow God— you can be sure the enemy will attack. It’s a promise Jesus left us. But it’s not the only promise we have. We have Christ’s assurances that He will never leave us and never give us something we cannot handle.

The Psalms soothe my spirit like nothing else. There have been times when even my friends could not con sole me. Times when people I’ve loved and cared for have hurt me deeply. People in whom I’ve invested time have paid back my kindness with contempt.

The temptation during these times is to fight back. That’s in our nature. And yet the Psalms encourage us to let God fight our battles. Revenge is not our job—that’s God’s. Our job is forgiveness and trust.

Maybe today you’re enduring the attack of the enemy. Maybe some one you love has turned their back on you. Maybe nobody seems to be able to find the right words to bring joy to your soul. Go where I go in these times. Reach for the middle of your Bible and the Psalms.

Today's Quote:  Release your enemies over to God—don’t let them keep you from your God-given duty—and allow God to get the revenge.
