When Forgiveness Is Hard

Today's Scripture: Romans 12:19-21
I’m sure you’re reading or listening to this devotional today and thinking of someone in your life that you’re finding hard to forgive. If you are, then you’re not alone. Many Christians have someone in their life that they find hard to forgive.
And yet, we know as believers, that we can’t keep bitterness in our hearts. We know the corrosive effect it has on our souls, the damage it does to our relationships, the drag it is to our daily walk with God.
So how do we get rid of that bitterness? It’s so easy to say, “Just forgive that person and move on.” But when the hurt and pain come around to our side of the fence, we suddenly feel how hard, how impossible it is, to forgive.
There is only one solution. We have to release our burden to the Lord. To forgive is supernatural—beyond our capacity. The bitterness will leave only when we allow Christ to live through us. His power and grace can lift us to perform the impossible.
If you’re struggling with this today, know that you don’t have to struggle alone. Jesus wants to take your burden and carry it. He wants you to experience freedom and hope. He wants to release the hold that bitterness has upon your heart. Will you let him?
