Today's Scripture: Matthew 7:13-14
In 1844, a medical doctor named Ignas Phillip Semmelweis was the assistant director at the Vienna Maternity Hospital. He suggested to the doctors that the high rate of death of patients and new babies was due to the fact that the doctors attending them were carrying infections from the diseased and dead people whom they had previously touched.
Semmelweis ordered doctors to wash their hands with soap and water and rinse them in a strong chemical before examining their patients. The majority of doctors disagreed with him and disobeyed his orders.
In the late nineteenth century, inspired by Semmelweis, Joseph Lister began taking measures to sterilize hospitals. The results were astonishing—the risky became routine. Nevertheless, the majority of doctors criticized his work also.
It’s evident today that the majority was wrong. But as Christians, we face the same resistance in the spiritual realm. The Bible is clear that truth isn’t relative, but is based upon the Author of Truth itself, our Lord.
Won’t you go against the majority and believe in Jesus today?
