Today’s Scripture: Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. Colossians 2:8‑9

Have you ever heard the phrase, “You are what you eat”? Think for a moment about what happens when a person (we’ll call him Bob) constantly eats candy, pop, chips, and fried foods. Despite working out, drinking plenty of water, and knowing proper nutrition, Bob is spoiling his health.

Because of his conscious decision to neglect putting in his body what he knows to be good, he will cause himself many problems which he could have avoided.

The same is true in the Christian life. God created us with the ability to choose what we allow into our spiritual bodies. We can ruin our spiritual lives by eating the wrong kinds of “foods.”

Of what does spiritual junk food consist? It consists of those things which give place to the devil and feed our fleshly nature, such as false doctrines, compromise, gossip, and lies—in short, the wisdom of this world.

Scripture warns us against succumbing to worldly reasoning and the vain deceit of philosophy. We are to follow Christ alone.

Maybe you attend a doctrinally-sound church, but allow false teaching into your life once you step out of its doors. Perhaps you feast on gossip and bitterness to keep life interesting or compromise your music standards to fit in with your friends. Don’t fill your life with spiritual junk food. Purge it from your spiritual diet right now. Purpose to feed the new nature today.
