Today’s Scripture: Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Romans 3:19

Many people think living a good life is what is needed to get to Heaven. That is what “religion” is all about – man’s attempt to “bind” himself “back” to God. All the religions of the world teach salvation by works – the only difference is which works are required.

Many people will tell you that they think they will go to Heaven because they are pretty good, and they keep the Ten Commandments. The problem with their thinking is the purpose of the Ten Commandments isn’t to tell us how to earn eternal life, rather, it shows us what is required for eternal life.

God is perfect and requires that His laws be kept perfectly. No one can truly claim to have kept the Ten Commandments – there is not one of us who has always placed God first in everything, honored their parents, and not stolen, lied, or coveted. Though many may claim they have never killed or committed adultery, the Bible says, “ Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer:” (1 John 3:15a) and Jesus said, “ But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” (Matthew 5:28)

Instead of giving confidence of salvation, the Ten Commandments prove we are all sinners. When we stand before Him, we won’t even have an excuse – we will know we are guilty. God is not willing that any should perish; He provided a way of salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ. Much of the world thinks they are okay, but they are in danger of spending eternity without God. We need to show them their need so they can trust the Savior. Share what Christ has done for you with someone today.
