We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 2 Peter 1:19
We see in our text verse that prophecy is “a more sure word.” In other words, it is a better proof. So the question remains; a better proof than what?

For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. 2 Peter 1:16-18

We see that prophecy is “a more sure word” than eyewitnesses seeing the amazing account at Christ’s baptism and the Mount of Transfiguration.

We don’t have eyewitnesses of Christ alive anymore, but we do have prophecies fulfilled. This is the greatest proof for what we believe. I encourage you to study the prophecies in the Bible, but for now, we will look at just a few of these prophecies.

  1. Messiah will be of the tribe of Judah
  2. Messiah will be of the seed of David
  3. Messiah will be born of a virgin
  4. Messiah will be born in Bethlehem
  5. Messiah will be betrayed
  6. Messiah will be sold for thirty pieces of silver
  7. Messiah will be pierced
  8. Messiah will not have any bones broken
  9. Messiah will be crucified
  10. Messiah will be raised from the dead
The fact that all of these prophecies came to pass is the best proof that Jesus is Messiah, even a better proof than eyewitnesses! Study your Bible, and you will experience that the more you learn from the Bible, the more confident you will be in its inerrancy. Study God’s Word; God is not worried that you will find a mistake in it.
