Today’s Scripture: Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. John 16:7

Jesus Christ had a very important discussion when He had the last supper before his crucifixion. He knew He would die soon, so He talked about issues dear to His heart. The last supper conversation was the last message He would give before He died. What did Christ talk about in such an important conversation? He encouraged His disciples that the Holy Spirit would come.

The “Comforter” would reprove the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. Also, He would show believers truth. In the early church, He did that by revelation. Now, He still shows us truth, but through God’s Word already given to us. Finally, the Spirit would glorify the Son.

The subject of the Holy Spirit was so important to Christ that He chose to talk about Him during the last supper. Do you ever thank God that He has indwelt you through the Spirit? It is an indescribably valuable gift that is only available to those who are saved in the Church Age. This is an incredible blessing that ought to encourage us through any trial and enable us to keep serving God.

Jesus finished His conversation with these words. “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
