Today’s Scripture: For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 1 Peter 2:21

Here is an excerpt from the book, Evangelism Made Simple, written by Dr. Stringer and myself.

A story is told of a man who bought his elderly parents a microwave as a gift. They were excited to be part of the “instant” generation. When his dad plugged it in, within a few minutes the microwave transformed two smiles into frowns. Even after carefully reading the directions, they couldn’t make it work. Two days later, his mother confessed to a friend her inability to get the microwave oven even to boil water. “To get this thing to work,” she exclaimed, “I really don’t need better directions; I just needed my son to come along with the gift!”1

When God gave the gift of salvation, He didn’t send a booklet of complicated instructions for us to figure out; He sent His Son.”

Just like the lady wanted her son to come with the gift she received, Jesus came with the gift of salvation. In fact, He was the gift! It is His death and resurrection alone that saves us from our sin and gives us eternal life.

This same principle applies to our daily walk. God didn’t just give us His Word as instructions on how we ought to live, but He also sent His Son to be an example of how to live. We have no excuse to give for not being Christ-like. God gave us instructions (the Bible), an example (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit Who indwells us. Throughout the day, will you be like Christ in your actions?
