Today’s Scripture: By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. Hebrews 11:8

Did you know that events in Abraham’s life prepared him for the momentous decision of faith that led him to Mount Moriah? Sometimes we read Genesis in a vacuum, thinking Abraham was possessed with special powers. Truthfully, God prepared Abraham with a series of small, but important tests. Some he passed, and some he failed.

God will also bring you along spiritually before handing you the big tests. When I came to Chicago, I couldn’t have envisioned the worldwide outreach we now have. God gave me what I could handle at the time. The good news is that we’re guided by the promise that He will cause nothing to occur that we cannot handle.

The Christian life is a journey of faith, a trail of trust. Slowly, the Holy Spirit works inside our hearts to mold us into the image of Christ. And it is God, Who in his perfect timing, brings the trials, tests, and circumstances that build our confidence in His power.

I’m sure that after Mount Moriah, Abraham looked back and saw God’s divine hand, slowly leading up to the mountain of sacrifice. And at your Mount Moriah, you’ll be able to look over your shoulder at the events in your past and discern the thread of faith God wove in your life as well.

You and I are no different than Abraham. We’re flawed, failed, humble sinners who have faith in a powerful, yet patient God.
