Can a Christian ever be certain all of his sins have been forgiven? Francine had earned a reputation at church for talking to herself when no one else was around her. Whenever someone asked her about it, she told them she was talking to Jesus. She would always say, “I talk to Jesus, and He talks to me.” This set their tongues a-wagging.
When the church hired a new pastor, the members of the congregation soon filled him in on Francine’s strange mannerisms. After having a conversation with her, the pastor asked her about her tendency to talk to Jesus. She smiled and said, “Yes, I talk to Him all the time.”
“And does He talk back to you?” the pastor skeptically inquired.
“Then Francine, the next time you talk to Him, can you ask Him what was the last sin I confessed to Him?”
“Sure, Pastor. I can do that.”
After the next church service, the pastor found Francine and anxiously asked what Jesus had told her about his sins. Francine smiled, “He said, ‘I don’t remember.’”
Every Christian has been completely absolved of the guilt of his sins. Jesus’ blood paid the full price. There is nothing in a Christian’s past which can hinder him. Nothing in the present can condemn him. And nothing in his future can ever cancel out the gift of eternal life God has promised him. The believer is forever saved and forgiven. His standing before God will never change.
Jesus might not verbally speak with us today; but when we talk to Him, these truths will never escape our minds. Do you spend time with Him each day? Try talking to Him about your points of spiritual weakness. Ask Him to lift you up when you fall. You can have peace because when God forgives, it’s as good as forgotten.
