Today’s Scripture: Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel. Psalms 78:41
The Israelites started out following God/Moses out of Egypt. But then they turned back. They limited God. The Hebrew word means “to cause pain.” This is the only place in the entire KJV Bible that the word limited is used.
When we turn back from following God it causes Him pain. When we think we know better than Him, it hurts us and it causes Him pain. Did it really help the children of Israel to wander in the wilderness for 40 years until an entire generation died?
How much better would it have been for them if they had done what God said the first time? God wanted to give them the Promised Land right away, but they had a “better” plan. Wander in circles and die.
Our improvements to God’s plans cause Him great pain, and it limits what He can do with us.
Don’t try to “better” what God said. Just do it. We’ll be so glad in the end.
What if we’ve already spent 40 years or so wandering in circles?
This same passage says…
For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again. Psalm 78:39
God is kind to us when we don’t deserve it: over and over and over.
We cause Him and ourselves far less pain when we simply get with the program and do what He said to do.
Remember: God doesn’t want to take us from where we are supposed to be to where He wants us. God wants to take us from where we are to where He wants us.
Let’s decide to cause Him the least amount of pain possible on that journey. How? By being eager to do what He says when He says.
