Today’s Scripture: Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:Proverbs 22:24

“I don’t understand why Mrs. Carter made that rule. She is always making things difficult for us,” said fifteen-year-old Catie.

“Well, I guess we shouldn’t be talking during class,” replied her friend, Erica.

“But she shouldn’t have yelled at you in front of everybody and embarrassed you. Doesn’t that make you mad? You should keep talking in class. Show her she can’t tell you what to do.

“There is an old saying applicable to Erica’s friend, Catie: “With friends like that, who needs enemies?” When we allow ourselves to hang around with negative people, we will most likely become negative ourselves. When choosing friends, we must consider: Does this person respect authority? Will they uplift me spiritually or drag me down? In our text, we read that we are not to make friends with those who have a bad attitude and cannot control their temper.

Are you struggling in one of your relationships? Do you feel as if you are spending too much time with a person who is negative and disobedient? Set aside some time to go to the Lord in prayer. Let Him know what is on your heart, and ask Him for guidance and clarity in the situation. Choose your friends wisely. Let the Lord help you determine whether they are true friends or hidden foes.
